May 1986.  First time my teenage writing got mentioned on the cover!

A few quick words…

What follows is a web version of my standard c.v.  It’s pretty boring (unless you’re looking to employ me, in which case it’s a laugh a minute riotous adventure in careering).

It’s also very long, so if you want to print it, Click Here for a printer friendly version which won’t use up so much paper.

Employment History.

Please Note: I have only included the more important or relevant jobs here as to list all of the projects in which I have been involved would take several pages and be very boring.  Also, I have listed my Theatre as a table on the final page and so have not gone into detail below.

Current Jobs:

2003 – Present.  Video Teacher.  Academy of Contemporary Music, Guildford.

Working with students aged between 13 and 26 this course, which I also designed, teaches potential pop artists how to understand and become comfortable with video.

Working with children aged from 6 to 16 as a teacher, director, and enabler.

2001 – Present.  Writer/Editor.  Sci-Fi Channel, London.

I am currently the Farscape consultant for the Sci-Fi channel and have worked on trailers, the website, and writing for a telephone poll.

1999 – Present.  Oxygen Designs, Guildford.

Work has included web design and content, programming, negotiation, and technical support.

1998 – Present.  Holocaust Day, Calthorpe Park School, Fleet.

I visit annually as a specialist teacher running workshops on themes of discrimination and prejudice.

1998 – Present.  Sex Education, Kings School, Haselmere.

Working with Amanda Farrell I visit the school bi-annually to provide Boell Method PSE education to the lower sixth form.

1983 – Present.  Drama Teacher.  Woking Drama Workshop.

I have been teaching sporadically for this group since I grew too old to be a member at the tender age of fifteen.

Relevant Previous Employment:

2000 – 2002.  Computer Technician.  Music Education Consultants, Guildford.

This regular freelance work involves designing, constructing, installing and testing Music PC systems for schools throughout Britain.

August 2002.  Tech Crew and Marketing Support, Naked Voices, Edinburgh Fringe.

I provided lighting and sound support, including rigging the theatre with microphones to record a live album, and helping with marketing and promotions.

Summer Term 2002.  Film Course Teacher, Farnham Youth, The Maltings, Farnham.

Working with a group of 16-19 year olds over six weeks they were introduced to basic skills used in front of and behind the camera, and shown how these skills can be integrated with the theatre.

1999 – 2001.  Producer/Writer/Director.  Little Britley on The Water.

This animated satire pilot was produced to broadcast quality on a shoestring budget by a team of thirteen people over two years.  For this project I learned animation and 3-D modelling, as well as writing, directing, scoring and voicing some of the characters with a cast which included Victoria Hamilton.

2000 – 2001.  Writer/Designer.  Rebellion Software, Oxford.

I wrote a 45,000 word plotline and designed levels for a game based on The Wolfman.

1997 – 1999.  Youth Theatre Director/Teacher, Stage Door, Woking.

Ran regular workshops and helped the students to devise and shoot three short video films.

1996 – 1998.  Teacher, Director.  NP Productions, Woking.

This work included directing summer “Play in a Month” courses for adults as listed in the table.

1997-1998. Teacher / Director.  The Daylight Project, Aldershot.

This was the most challenging work I have ever undertaken; attempting to produce a devised piece with a group of homeless individuals in a daytime drop-in centre.

1995 – 1998.  Artistic Director, Young Actors Company, (16–19 yrs), West End Centre, Aldershot.

I was employed by Hampshire County Council to teach teenagers and facilitate them in starting their own companies.

1995 – 1996.  Writer/Director/Designer.  Virtuality Ltd, Sheffield.

I was the foremost game designer working in virtual reality at that time and provided plots, dialogue, and music, as well as directing motion and voice capture sessions.

1995 – 1996.  Producer/Engineer.  The Doozers (Album).  Trinity Studios, Knaphill.

1994 – 1995.  Writer/Director.  Sun Microsystems, Bagshot.

I was contracted to write and direct the staff in a “Richard and Judy” pastiche.  They weren’t as good as the homeless guys!

1992 – 1995. Artistic Director.  Synaesthesia Theatre Company.

This company was formed by Phil Gibby and me, in order to bring new works to the local and national stage.  We regularly took productions to Edinburgh and other fringe venues including the controversial “Passion” in 1994 which attracted mass media attention after an unsuccessful church attempt to have the play banned.

1995 – 1998.  Founding Partner and Director.  Dead Stupid Productions.

My business partner and I produced best-selling comedy posters, novelty goods, radio plays and TV Pilots.

1991 – 1994. Artistic Director.   Blackwater Community Theatre Company, Hampshire County Council.

This is the job where I honed my directing skills working on projects from Shaw to Shakespeare.

1992 – 1993.  The Butterfly Effect, based in Horsell, Woking.

I worked as a musician and songwriter producing two albums and playing gigs across Europe.

1990 – 1995.  Writer/Designer.  Domark Software, Addlestone.

I designed, scored, and wrote and directed dialogue for computer games.

1986 – 1989.  Artistic Director.  Primitive Symbolism Theatre Company.

Founded straight from college (hence the dreadful name) the company was best known for the multiple award winning AIDS Project, a peer to peer TIE production which toured extensively throughout England for three years.

1984 – 1986.  Red Shift Youth Theatre, London.

Under the tutelage of my college drama teacher I worked as a performer, assistant director, and composer on the City Limits Recommended sell-out production of “The Good Person of Schetzuan”.

Hobbies.

I enjoy writing, playing, and recording music, going to all forms of live performance, walking in the countryside, debating politics and religion, reading books and comics (a much maligned art-form), and enjoying a glass of wine in the company of my friends.

I am co-founder of the popular Guildford Songwriter’s Night, and have helped to organise and run one of the stages at the Ambient Green festival in Shalford for the last two years.
